In 1976 I arrived in America,
from the Bahamas accepting the challenge of opening a Private Club on Arthur Godfrey Road in Miami Beach called Club 41. The Club became one of the most prestigious, well-known dining establishments in Miami Beach within the first year.
Our guests included stars such as Rock Hudson, Telly Savallas, Red Buttons, George Peppard, William Conrad, the Miami Dolphins, Petula Clark, and Florida Senators, to mention a few.
A restaurant is only as good as the team that runs it,
I was lucky enough to have great team players, one of my Sous Chefs was Khaled Abdalla, a young native of Syria.
I was always impressed with Kal’s enthusiasm and ease of performing the kitchen’s daily tasks; it just seemed as if he had a gift, and cooking was his calling!
As life goes on,
eventually, we all go our separate paths to pursue other, better, greener opportunities.
Kal became Executive Chef,
at the famous Steakhouse “The Forge” in Miami Beach, where he presided over the kitchen for 20 years.
Since 2010 Kal has been the Executive Chef at “A Fish Called Avalon” on South Beach. Being retired, and living in Switzerland now, I have been interested to see how and where my fellow proteges turned up over the years. Thanks to Social media it is very easy to do these days, I do follow a few of them on Instagram and Facebook.
Chef Kal always impresses me with his culinary creations. He has the ability to create beautiful combinations, not just in taste but also for presentation.
Should you visit Florida, make sure you go to this restaurant to taste Chef Kal’s food delights,
I am sure you won’t be disappointed!
