“Chillin” time really is an absolute necessity to be able to function at work. Here in Switzerland a normal work schedule in the Hospitality Industry is from 8 or 9 am until 2 pm, then a 3-hour break, then back at 5 pm until 11 or 12 pm or even later, depending on the business profile, so basically one works all day with a split shift, because the 3-hour break reduced itself to 2 hours, depending on where you live and commute to, by the time you leave and return at five almost an hour could be lost.
“Chillin” is not really the right expression, I think recuperating or re-loading would be a better description. “Chillin’ out” is definitely a way of life. If you don’t insist and allocate time for it, the daily work and life routines just deprive you of it.
Nowadays, I myself, have plenty of time to chill, but somehow there always seems to be something to do, if it’s not trimming the lawn, sweeping around the house, cleaning the fish tank, or making appointments for the Mother-in-Law, taking her to the ear doctor, trimming the Grapevines so the grapes don’t go moldy again because of too many leaves prevent the sun from reaching those succulent globes of red grapes. My chillin time is being consumed by all those small daily tasks.
When I think back to my childhood, my Mother and Father never really “chilled out” they were always busy doing something, I don’t ever remember my Mom laying on a couch for a few hours, my Dad, the only chilling time he had (or took) was the nap over the lunch break for an hour working at Kern Co. (a Precision & Electronic Company, also supplying NASA with certain instruments), and then on Saturday when he went to town playing cards with his buddies, he came home waking me up at 1 am stumbling up the stairs because he forgot to count how many glasses of wine he consumed, or was allowed to consume!
I think at my age one comes to the realization that time is becoming more and more precious, one starts to think, that instead of lying on the couch or watching TV, there are better things to accomplish with our time.
Besides, watching TV, mostly the news anyway, can put you in an instant depression! This maniac in Russia is killing his own kind for his personel ego, the Chinese working very hard spreading their influence throughout Eastern World, America in a total frenzy, a ploitical nightmare, and killing each other through their non-sensical gun laws.
Wow…! Whatever happened to humanity? How much more self destructive can we become?
Oh… I just remember, it’s Thursday, I have to push the garden waste container to end of the street, tomorrow is Friday, pickup day! and I just see that some of the Grape Vine stems are too long again, I guess I better trim those!
Well, so much for my “Chillin” time today!
Stay well, be Happy and Chill out!
