Yep, we’re a strange bunch, aren’t we?
The only species with the intelligence to create incredible technology, solve complex problems, and explore the universe—yet also the only one capable of orchestrating its own destruction. Not any of the species in the Animal world are eliminating themselves.
No other creature builds weapons capable of wiping out entire cities, alters the climate to its own detriment, or creates social systems that lead to its own suffering. Lions don’t overhunt themselves into extinction. Bees don’t burn down their own hives for short-term profit. But humans? We do all of that and more.
The irony is that we also recognize the problem. We write books, make speeches, and research how to fix it. And yet, we still march forward, often ignoring the warnings, sometimes even accelerating the destruction.
